00:10:26 can talk differently about it but it's usually ignored there is something quite artificial about dividing the series into five separate modalities I think it's become increasingly clear both from a neuroscientific basis and perhaps even from a philosophical perspective that a lot of these things we have traditionally parsed into separate modalities actually really profoundly interact uh both in the biological sense that you've got you know think about the the taste of a buffalo wing you've got I

00:11:27 these that our experience uh intensively crossmodal uh but also in at the level of neural processing it seems like this information is coming together early to make uh to make sort of richly multimodal representations and then also feeding back such that each sensory system potentially knows a lot about what the other sensory systems have or might experience so well I'm I'm the um least qualified to speak on these matters as an historian because historians don't see taste as stable or

00:21:22 yeah and I would go back one step depends on who's saying what and from what position of authority they're saying it so if you look at the history of race in this country modern segregation began with the the 1896 py versus Ferguson case right in which a visually ambiguous black man Homer pie sat on a railroad car in New Orleans in order to test whether or not segregation would work so
