James M. Bower is a computational neuroscientist whose research focuses on the physiological and functional organization of cortical structures in the mammalian brain. He co-founded the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) in 1987, developed the GENESIS neural simulation system, and founded the children's educational virtual world Whyville.net, which has over 8 million registered users worldwide.
