Sheldon Solomon is an experimental social psychologist holding a B.A. in psychology from Franklin and Marshall College and a PhD from the University of Kansas. His research interests center on the nature of self, consciousness, and social behavior. His collaborative work with Jeff Greenberg and Tom Pyszczynski has examined the effects of the uniquely human awareness of death on individual and social behavior, receiving National Science Foundation and Ernest Becker Foundation support. This research was featured in award-winning documentaries Flight from Death: The Quest for Immortality and The Anatomy of Hate. He co-authored In the Wake of 9/11: The Psychology of Terror (2003) and co-founded The World Leaders Project. His honors include Fellowship in the American Psychological Society and the Society for Experimental Social Psychology, a 2007 American Psychological Association Presidential Citation, a 2009 Lifetime Career Award from The International Society for Self and Identity, and a 2011 Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs Annual Faculty Award.
