Biography

Kristen Lindquist is a social psychologist and affective neuroscientist whose research demonstrates that emotions are not localized to single brain regions but rely on distributed neural networks, challenging the view that 'basic emotions' are universal. Her work on emotion words shows that speakers of different languages likely convey different meanings when discussing emotions like love, countering assumptions about emotional universality. She directed the Affective Science Lab at UNC Chapel Hill and is the incoming Weary Chair in Social Psychology at Ohio State University.
