Biography

Kathryn T. Hall is a molecular biologist and leader in placebo research who coined the term 'placebome' to describe the genetic underpinnings of the placebo effect. She directs placebo genetics research in the Program in Placebo Studies at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and basic and translational research at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Her 2022 book Placebos (MIT Press) summarizes her research, which has been featured in The Atlantic, Science Magazine, The Economist, and The New York Times.
