Biography
Jane Ira Bloom is a soprano saxophonist, composer, and pioneer in the use of live electronics and movement in jazz. A graduate of Yale University, she was the first musician commissioned by the NASA Art Program and won the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Surround Sound for her album Early Americans. She has been full-time faculty at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music since 1998 and is a thirteen-time winner of the Jazz Journalists Award for soprano saxophone. Asteroid 6083 Janeirabloom was named in her honor.
