Irene Pepperberg holds an S.B. from MIT (1969) and Ph.D. from Harvard (1976). She has held positions as visiting Assistant Professor at Northwestern University, tenured Associate Professor at the University of Arizona, visiting Associate Professor at the MIT Media Lab, and adjunct Associate Professor at Brandeis University. Her honors include John Simon Guggenheim, Whitehall, Harry Frank Guggenheim, and Radcliffe Fellowships. She received the 2000 Selby Fellowship from the Australian Academy of Sciences, the 2005 Frank Beach Award for comparative psychology research, and the 2013 Clavius Award from St. Johns University. She earned nomination for the 2000 Weizmann, L'Oreal, and Grawemeyer Awards, and received the Animal Behavior Society's 2001 Quest Award and 2015 Exemplar Award. Her research, supported by the National Science Foundation, produced "The Alex Studies," detailing over two decades of peer-reviewed experiments on Grey parrots. Her memoir, "Alex & Me," became a New York Times bestseller and won a Christopher Award. She has authored over 100 scholarly articles and serves as fellow with multiple organizations including the American Psychological Association and AAAS.
