Biography

Dr. Wendel is a Principal Investigator at the Cancer Genetics Laboratory at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He trained in medicine in Aachen and Edinburgh and currently holds Associate Member status at the Sloan-Kettering Institute. His research focuses on identifying novel cancer therapies through genetic analysis, with particular emphasis on lymphatic leukemias and lymphomas. He has identified translation -- the process converting messenger RNA into proteins -- as an understudied area in cancer research. His laboratory investigates natural compounds from plants, marine sponges, and corals that target translation processes, seeking to understand their potential clinical applications in cancer treatment.
