Biography
George Makari is a psychiatrist and historian who serves as Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and Director of the DeWitt Wallace Institute of Psychiatry: History, Policy, and the Arts. He is the author of Revolution in Mind: The Creation of Psychoanalysis, Soul Machine: The Invention of the Modern Mind, and Of Fear and Strangers: A History of Xenophobia, which won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. In 2017, he received the Benjamin Rush Award from the American Psychiatric Association.
