Wolfson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Jewish Research and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His scholarly focus centers on Jewish mysticism history, drawing from philosophy, literary criticism, feminist theory, postmodern hermeneutics, and religious phenomenology. He has authored numerous acclaimed works including "Though a Speculum That Shines: Vision and Imagination in Medieval Jewish Mysticism" (winner of the American Academy of Religion's Award for Excellence, 1995) and "Language, Eros, and Being: Kabbalistic Hermeneutics and the Poetic Imagination" (National Jewish Book Award, 2006). Additional publications include studies on Kabbalistic symbolism, Abraham Abulafia, and mystical theology. He has also published two poetry collections: "Pathwings" (2004) and "Footdreams and Treetales" (2007).
