Andrea Pinotti teaches Aesthetics at the Universita degli Studi di Milano and serves as Directeur de Programme at the College International de Philosophie in Paris on the project Monument Nonument. His research focuses on Kunstwissenschaft (Riegl, Wolfflin, Warburg), image-theories, and empathy-theories. He held fellowships at Columbia University's Italian Academy for Advanced Studies, was Directeur d'etudes associe at EHESS in Paris, Senior Fritz Saxl-Fellow at the Warburg Institute in London, and Gastwissenschaftler at the ZfL in Berlin. Pinotti has edited Italian texts by empathy and art theorists including Robert Vischer, Friedrich Theodor Vischer, Theodor Lipps, Moritz Geiger, Alois Riegl, Heinrich Wolfflin, Wilhelm Worringer, and Hans Sedlmayr. His major publications include The Body of Style (1998), Memories of the Neutral (2001), and Empathy: History of an Idea from Plato to the Post-Human (2011). He co-edited Images of the Mind (2007), Image-Theories (2009), and Art History and Visual Studies in Europe (2012).
