Biography

Dr. Schwartz holds core faculty status at The Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology and teaches at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Extension School. He serves as coeditor of "Advances in Descriptive Psychology" and previously taught at Wellesley College, Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, and Massachusetts Institute of Psychoanalysis. His empirical research examines dreaming, memory, problem representation, hypnosis, and episodic memory. Using Descriptive Psychology, he focuses on theory-free formulations of action and responsibility, hypnosis concepts, psychotherapy status dynamics, and empathic action parameters. Current research explores liberation, improvisation, play, and behavioral logic of social progress. He maintains a Boston-based psychotherapy and supervision practice serving individuals and couples.
