Biography
Suzanne Jill Levine is a Distinguished Professor Emerita at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a preeminent translator of Latin American literature. Since the early 1970s, she has translated over forty works by authors including Manuel Puig, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Julio Cortazar, and Adolfo Bioy Casares. She received the 2024 PEN/Ralph Manheim Award for Translation in recognition of her lifetime achievements, and her influential scholarly work The Subversive Scribe helped shape the field of translation studies.
