Setsuko Winchester
Biography
Winchester is a multidisciplinary artist who transitioned from journalism to visual arts after relocating to Western Massachusetts in 2006. She worked as journalist, editor, and producer at NPR before shifting focus to ceramics. In 2015, she launched the Freedom from Fear/Yellow Bowl Project, combining ceramics and photography to examine American identity and freedom through the lens of Japanese American internment during WWII. The project involved traveling over 16,000 miles to document all ten U.S. concentration camps. Her work has been featured at the FDR Library and Museum and in a 75th Anniversary exhibition commemorating Executive Order 9066.
