Professor Seager is an astrophysicist and a pioneer in the vast and unknown world of exoplanets, planets that orbit stars other than the sun. Her research encompasses detection of exoplanet atmospheres to innovative theories about life on other worlds to development of novel space mission concepts. Her space mission work includes serving as Deputy Science Director for the NASA TESS mission, Principal Investigator for the CubeSat ASTERIA, leadership on the Starshade Rendezvous Mission, and direction of a mission concept study focused on Venus's atmosphere to detect potential signs of life. She has received a MacArthur Fellowship, membership in the US National Academy of Sciences, the Sackler Prize in Physical Sciences, the Magellanic Premium Medal, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. She authored "The Smallest Lights in the Universe: A Memoir."
