Biography

Nouchine Hadjikhani is a neuroscientist whose research focuses on the pathophysiology of migraine and neurodevelopmental disorders, with particular emphasis on autism spectrum disorders. She discovered and characterized the brain area responsible for color vision using fMRI and demonstrated that the aura of migraine was a phenomenon similar to cortical spreading depression, in a groundbreaking paper cited more than 1,700 times. Her work disproving the theory that individuals with autism lack the brain area devoted to face identification has been highly influential in the field.
