Michael Rampino

Michael Rampino holds a B.A. from Hunter College of the City University of New York and a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Columbia University. He is recognized as a highly regarded teacher at NYU. His research culminated in the Shiva Hypothesis, described as a general theory integrating astrophysics, planetary geology and the environment, and the history of life to account for Earth's periodic extinctions. His scholarly work also examines volcanic eruptions' impact on extinctions, biogeochemical cycles, and global climate across various time scales.
