Michael B. First is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University and a Research Psychiatrist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. He is nationally and internationally recognized for his extensive work on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), having edited the text and criteria for DSM-IV, served as editor for DSM-IV-TR, and acted as editorial and coding consultant for DSM-5. He also serves as chief technical consultant on the World Health Organization's ICD-11 revision project.
