Biography

Michael Bess is a historian specializing in the interactions between social and cultural processes and technological change in twentieth- and twenty-first century Europe. His book 'The Light-Green Society' won the George Perkins Marsh Prize from the American Society for Environmental History, and his recent work 'Planet in Peril' addresses existential risks from climate change, nuclear weapons, pandemics, and artificial intelligence. He has won multiple teaching excellence awards at Vanderbilt.
