Chairman of the Department of Paleontology
Born July 26, 1957, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Norell earned a Bachelor of Science from Long Beach State University (1980) and a Master of Science from San Diego State University (1983). He received the John Spanger Nichols prize for his doctoral thesis from Yale University in 1988. After postdoctoral work in maize molecular genetics, he joined the American Museum of Natural History as a curator. "The author of many scholarly articles, Dr. Norell's most recent book is entitled Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World."
