Dr. Phelps earned her PhD from Princeton University in 1989 and taught at Yale University until 1999. Her laboratory has achieved recognition for groundbreaking research on how the human brain processes emotion, particularly as it relates to learning, memory and decision making. She holds the 21st Century Scientist Award from the James S. McDonnell Foundation and is a fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Professional service includes Board roles with the Association for Psychological Science and Society for Neuroethics, presidency of the Society for Neuroeconomics, editorship of the journal Emotion, and current presidency of the Association for Psychological Science.
