Ken Paller conducts cognitive neuroscience research at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he directs the Training Program in the Neuroscience of Human Cognition. His collaborative research examines human memory, consciousness, and related topics. Recent work has investigated sleep's role in memory, sensory processing during sleep to reinforce learning, neural substrates of conscious memory experiences, and how memory influences behavior without conscious awareness, such as in intuition. His research employs behavioral memory measures, EEG analysis, cognitive deficits in neurological patients, and MRI methods. Paller earned a PhD in Neurosciences from UC San Diego and completed undergraduate studies at UCLA. He held postdoctoral positions at Yale, Manchester, and Berkeley. He is a Fellow of the Mind and Life Institute and the Association for Psychological Science, serves as journal editor for Neuropsychologia, and chairs the program committee for the Cognitive Neuroscience Society. He received the Senator Mark Hatfield Award from the Alzheimer's Association and funding from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and other agencies.
