Ilya Tëmkin

An interdisciplinary scientist examining how evolution works in nature and in human culture in the general framework of the hierarchy theory. He specializes in bivalve mollusks and analyzes ecological, historical, and developmental factors in diversification. His cultural research explores musical instrument design as a model for understanding information transmission mechanisms. He coedited Evolutionary Theory: A Hierarchical Perspective (Chicago University Press, 2016). Academic background includes a doctorate in Biology from NYU and bachelor's degree from Columbia University, with postdoctoral fellowships at the American Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, and Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris.
