Biography

Erik Hoel is an American neuroscientist, neurophilosopher, and author who earned his doctorate studying consciousness under Giulio Tononi at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed postdoctoral research at Columbia University and was a professor at Tufts University before leaving academia to write full-time. He is the author of the novel The Revelations (2021) and the nonfiction book The World Behind the World, and writes the popular Substack newsletter The Intrinsic Perspective.
