Eric R. Marcus is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who directs the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. His research involves symbolic alterations of reality in psychotic and near psychotic phenomena, and psychodynamic social science research using medical student dreams to study the development of medical empathy. He is a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and past president of the Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine.
