Edwin Turner

Turner holds an SB in Physics from MIT (1971) and a PhD in Astronomy from Caltech (1975). He joined Princeton's faculty in 1978 after brief appointments at the Institute for Advanced Study and Harvard. His research spans theoretical and observational astrophysics with over 250 publications covering binary galaxies, dark matter, gravitational lensing, exoplanets, astrobiology, and the origin of life. He directed Apache Point Observatory's 3.5-meter telescope for nine years and served on multiple boards including the Space Telescope Institute Council (three years as Chair). Recent interests include the Breakthrough Starshot Initiative, the YHouse project, artificial intelligence, and consciousness studies.
