Biography

Alan M. Leslie is a Scottish psychologist whose research on social cognition and intuitive 'theory of mind' has had revolutionary implications for the study of autism. He co-authored the landmark 1985 paper with Simon Baron-Cohen and Uta Frith, 'Does the autistic child have a theory of mind?', which demonstrated that children with autism have particular difficulties understanding another person's beliefs and desires. He directs the Cognitive Development Laboratory at Rutgers and co-directs the Rutgers University Center for Cognitive Science.
